Step-by-Step Guide on Making your Own Theme

June 5th, 2008

We have been receiving comments asking for a step-by-step guide on how to set-up or make your own theme. We have provided several tutorials and this post will simply layout the steps you need to do and direct you to each specific tutorials. Let this be your simple guide to start making your own theme by constructing your own CSS.

    1. Decide how you want your page to look like. This layout of your page will depend on the Base Themes. The most popular and simple base theme to use and tweak is the Avlack, Sandskrit and Shadow Box. These base themes have the rail body which bears the headshot on the right side while the contents are aligned on the left. RedFrog Base theme have the contents on the right and the rail on the left. If you want an extended wide lay-out, you can settle for Skyline. There are more Base Themes to choose from. You can see how the Base Themes look like in our post Base Themes and their CSS.
    2. Copy the CSS Codes of the Base Theme that you have chosen. Get the codes in our post Base Themes and their CSS. Open Notepad and paste the Base Code there.
    3. Have the images you want to work with ready. If you want to make your own banner or personalize your footer, now is the best time to work with it. The following tutorials will help you in doing so:

      Making a Banner with your Photo
      Animate your Banner
      How to Personalize Footer
    4. Upload the images you have including the image you want for your background in a Image-Hosting site like Photobucket, Multiply, and others.
    5. Once your images are uploaded on the image hosting site and copy the URL. Use our post on Your Page and CSS Code to know which part of the CSS you need to put the URL of your image.

    For example, if you have your banner image’s URL copied, paste it on background part of the specified CSS:

    div.owner_nav {background:URL of Banner Image;}

    For the Footer Image, paste it on the background part of the specified CSS below:

    div#ownedfooter {background:URL of Banner Image;}

    For the background of the entire page commonly known as body background, paste it on on the background part of the specified CSS below:

    body {background:URL of Banner Image;}

    Note: The banner and footer images should have the same dimension to avoid misalignment. If you’re a beginner, have your image follow the dimension of the banner or footer on the Base Theme.

    All other tweaking or changes on the CSS, let the post Your Page and CSS Code be your guide.

6. Test and Preview your CSS by installing it on your Multiply Site. Make sure you backup your old CSS before you click Preview or Save.

7. Once satisfied, save the CSS and let it be your basis for your next theme. Enjoy tweaking, more themes to come and we expect to see it here in!

    pano makuha ung url?

  • 3. simplyjacy  |  June 9th, 2008 at 9:28 am

    hello nicky!
    to know the size of the banner, you can see it in the CSS code of our base theme. you will find the width under div.owner_nav. the height can usually be up to you. the navigation menus will have to be adjusted though.

  • 4. simplyjacy  |  June 9th, 2008 at 9:32 am

    hi lyca!
    the URL of our image is provided below the image by most image-hosting software like photobucket. but in most site, there is another way in getting it.

    if you’re using Internet Explorer, just right click on the image, click on Properties, then copy the Address (URL) on that small window that pops up. Be careful coz some URLs may be too long and you might need to scroll down to highlight it all.

    if you’re using Firefox, simply right click on the image and click on Copy Image Location.

    hello! the tutorial was really helpful but i can ask one more thing. i’ve been trying to put my image as background of the body. but i don’t know the css command to have it stretch and fixed. can you please help me? thanks.

  • 6. simplyjacy  |  June 11th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

    hello liezl!
    to put your own background image in the body, simply paste the URL of your image on the bold part of the code below:

    body {
    background: url(“URLofImage“) fixed;}

    on the code, i have added the word fixed to have the image on a fix position. if you want it to scroll, just delete the word fix.

  • 8. simplyjacy  |  June 17th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

    hello Lea!

    i checked on your site and realize that you have not customize the current Base Theme. which part of the tutorial are you confuse with? Basic Steps:
    ->Copy the Base Theme CSS (in your case Avalck)
    -> Copy and paste the URL of your image and insert it at the right part of the CSS.

  • 21. nosmik  |  July 18th, 2008 at 8:07 am

    hi there people! its good to be here! so many users interactions…i believe this is a friendly site…i’m just new in this multiply site and i find it good with a bit of problems…well,hope someone cares for a warm welcome…give love!

  • 22. simplyjacy  |  July 21st, 2008 at 3:10 pm

    welcome to nosmik! do you think it’s best if we will have a forum around here? if everyone would like it, we can have it put up.

  • 23. simplyjacy  |  July 21st, 2008 at 3:13 pm

    remember that these themes are for free and if you plan to make changes to the CSS, you ask the owner if not give credits to them. unless you’re using the CSS of the base themes, then you need not ask permission.

    as for your problem, you must’ve missed a single character which is essential like semicolon or the colon. i checked on your site and i’ve seen that you are able to change the header image. that’s a good start!

  • 24. lovelyn  |  July 22nd, 2008 at 9:57 pm

    the tutorial is really helpful.. it’s just that i don’t know where and how will i put it in my profile

  • 25. simplyjacy  |  July 24th, 2008 at 7:16 pm

    once you have your own CSS, you can install it in your profile by clicking on Customize My Profile and there will be a yellow tab above that will appear. Click on Custom CSS and paste your CSS.

  • 26. ayen  |  July 26th, 2008 at 12:28 pm

    hi there! your tutorials are of great help! I just finished my first personal theme. yipee! thanks a lot and keep it up!

    I think creating a forum is a good idea to sort out the topics better and to have more interaction among the users.

    Also, may I link your site?

  • 27. simplyjacy  |  July 28th, 2008 at 3:13 pm

    hello Ayen!

    we are looking into improving this site better. eventually, we will make a forum.

    btw, you really did a good job on making your own theme. is it your first time? i’m really impressed.

    we would love it if you link our site. thanks a lot!

  • 28. ayen  |  July 29th, 2008 at 1:58 am

    thank you!

    yup. it’s my first time to customize my multiply theme but i already did some web layouting “stints” before.

    i’ve searched for tutorials all over the internet and i have to say that you tutorials were the easiest to follow.

  • 32. marga  |  August 5th, 2008 at 8:25 am

    hi… I placed some .png pics in my menu bars… to be able to get the proper texts I want, what do i add so that the .png does not click to the pics where I’m calling up the texts? (disabling the hover hand )…

  • 33. simplyjacy  |  August 5th, 2008 at 12:20 pm

    hello marga!
    first of all, i would like to congratulate you with the beautiful and clean theme you made. good job!

    to answer your question, why don’t you use this html code to call for the image without redirecting you to the particular image:
    <img src=”urlofimage”>

    the above html code is not clickable. but if you want your viewers to click it and be directed to the specific place like blog for example, you can use the hyperlinking html code which is:
    <a href=”urloftheblogpage”><img src=”urloftheblogimage”></a>

    should you have any more questions just leave us a message here.

  • 34. nana  |  August 8th, 2008 at 11:08 am

    uhm…only half of the banner is showing…o.o;
    How do I make the whole banner show? and the footer is not in the middle? the width of the footer is…770 so is the banner…

  • 35. simplyjacy  |  August 8th, 2008 at 6:40 pm

    hello nana! what’s the height of your banner? take note of it and adjust the height part of this code:

    can you give me the link to your site? that way i will know what to do.

  • 36. nana  |  August 8th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

    oh and the height of the banner is 600 px.
    How big exactly do I make it?

  • 37. simplyjacy  |  August 9th, 2008 at 1:04 am

    hello nana! have the height exactly 600px as well.

  • 38. simplyjacy  |  August 9th, 2008 at 1:31 am

    hello nana!

    when i checked the page, I have actually seen the entire header. but still i have decided to adjust the height just to avoid future errors.

    here is the CSS that you have made which i made a few corrections which are explained below:

    i also tweaked the position of the Menu Bar by adding the element: margin-top: -185px; at the div#subnavc part of the CSS. how did i achieve that value of margin? I just did it by trial and error. first i tried to put a value and see where that value places the menu. and I arrived into that value which makes the menu sits on the top pink bar of your header.

    I have also added the margin-top: -100px; at the div#page_start to get rid of the big white gap between the header and the page. i arrived with the value of -100px by trial and error again.

    i have decided to hide the name of the Site since it is overlapping the header. if you want to restore the Site title, you can simply go to the h1#page_owner_title part of the CSS and delete the visibility: hidden;.

    the footer seemed to be in the right place. only that it doesn’t seem to be of the same length and seemed not part of the entire page. so i decided to add a border by putting a value of 10px solid #fff; at the border part of the div#ownedfooter. i have also adjusted the size of the footer to make sure it fits the image.

    let me know if you have copied the CSS and have it in safe keeping so I can remove it from the testing site. good luck!

  • 39. nana  |  August 9th, 2008 at 4:17 am

    Hi :)
    Thanks so much!!

    Yes, I’ve copied the css code but there’s still a prob with the footer?:(

  • 40. lyza  |  August 9th, 2008 at 9:13 am

    please help, i want to change the font of my text in my page… please help me change the font of both the title and the body…

    ie. welcome to my world -(title)
    When times seems tough… just …. -(body)

    kind regards,

  • 41. simplyjacy  |  August 9th, 2008 at 2:27 pm

    hello nana!

    i’m sorry but i actually forgot a very important thing. the reason why the footer is messed up in your site is because you are using the different base theme (Andros) from the Custom CSS that you are having.

    to fix it, go to Customize My Site, click on Choose a Theme and then select the AVLACK. then go to your custom CSS and click save on it.

    it should all be fine now.

  • 42. simplyjacy  |  August 9th, 2008 at 2:43 pm

    hello lyza!

    thanks for dropping by. do you have a particular font style in mind? just to remind you that if other people’s computer doesn’t have that particular font you have chosen, that part will appear to be the basic fonts like arial or something.

    so to change the font of the title (welcome to my world), look for this part of the CSS:
    .itemboxsub and change the value of the font-family.

    for the body, go to .itembox and add this string font-family: century gothic; in it. if you don’t like the century gothic font, change it to your preference.

    in the future, use this tutorial Your Page and CSS to know what part of the CSS would correspond to the particular part of your page.

    ooohh… Thanks so much!!!! I really appreciate your help :)

  • 45. hachiko  |  August 11th, 2008 at 10:08 am

    i posted this but my banner and background wont show up?

  • 46. simplyjacy  |  August 11th, 2008 at 11:09 pm

    hello hachiko!

    thank you for coming our site to get help on designing your own theme. we have fixed your problem and we would like you to take note of how we did it so you can do it yourself.
    here is your personalize CSS:
    Hachico’s Personalize Theme

    You can check out the look of it here: Hachico on the Testing Site

    the first is the body of your page. the reason why the image did not appear is because you pasted the URL of your own image in the wrong place. if you noticed on the corrected CSS above, we pasted the URL of your image in the background: url(“urlofimage”) in the body tag.
    we also removed the no-repeat on the skyline original theme so that your image will occupy the entire page.

    you have the same issue on your banner. paste it in the background: url(“urlofimage”> part in the div.owner_nav. we also added the no-repeat and center beside it so that it will avoid repeating the banner. and we have also adjusted the height of the div.owner_nav similar to the banner image.

    we also moved the menu bar down by adding this string: margin-top: 340px; on the div#subnavc part of your CSS.

    let me know if it works for you. that way we can take your first personalize theme down from our testing site.

  • 47. ramedogfx  |  August 12th, 2008 at 10:37 am

    grrr my banner its been cut-off! I’ve followed the instruction on how to install and as a matter of fact, my banner size is the same size as the theme…I dunno..dunno where to edit..anyone please help??My Base theme is Mykonos. My banner –> Anyone please help… Pm me on my multiply page or email me. [email protected]

    I really appreciate your big help.

  • 48. simplyjacy  |  August 12th, 2008 at 11:26 am

    hello ram!
    if you check on your CSS, the part of it that is labeled as /*BANNER STARTS HERE*/ is actually not the banner. it is more of the body of the page. i have seen you had the height similar to your image. but that’s not where you want it to be, is it?

    so go ahead and remove the URL of your image in that part. and look for this part of your CSS which controls the banner: div.owner_nav
    you might see there are two heights, there, get rid of one and make the height value similar to the height of your image. don’t forget the semicolon ( ; ) after the value.

    then remove this: background-position: 0 -100px;
    and click on save. you should have your banner up!

    in the future, refer to this Tutorial to know what CSS corresponds to the part of your page:
    Your Page and CSS

  • 49. amica  |  August 14th, 2008 at 7:17 pm

    hey. =] how come the background & my banner doesn’t appear. I’ve benn working on it a few weeks na. =(( pls. help me.

  • 50. question-er  |  August 16th, 2008 at 2:15 am

    how about the railstart?

  • 51. simplyjacy  |  August 18th, 2008 at 12:40 am

    hey amica!

    your page looks great even if i haven’t seen the background yet. good job!

    the reason why you can’t see your background is because you have 2 background url string in your div.owner_nav.

    go ahead and delete the entire string of background url which is immediately right after the code div.owner_nav up to the semi-colon and you will see your banner already.

  • 52. simplyjacy  |  August 18th, 2008 at 12:40 am

    what about the railstart? what do you want to know about it?

  • 53. reiko  |  August 23rd, 2008 at 6:31 am

    hey there! been a long time since i visited your site.. was busy with projects… was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to make my designs compatible with both IE and firefox.

    thanks jacy!

  • 54. simplyjacy  |  August 24th, 2008 at 12:33 am

    hello reiko!
    it’s nice to see you again girl! to be honest with you, making a theme that is compatible for both IE and Firefox is a challenge.
    the closest we can get there is to preview them ourselves in both browsers and see if they look good.

    a very safe way is to make themes from scratch (editing the Base theme). usually it works on both.

    hi :) this is a very helpful tutorial, but i’m still having a hard time with the theme i’m trying to make. i copied the dimensions/pixels included in the theme base (i used mykonos) so i could make my banner and footer in the same size. when i tried it out, both did not fit. :( my banner was cut on the top. my footer was too short. i don’t get it. lol. maybe you could help me. thanks! :)

  • 82. simplyjacy  |  November 1st, 2008 at 11:26 pm

    can you give me the link to your site so i can see what went wrong and how to fix it?

  • 83. tonette  |  November 6th, 2008 at 10:20 am

    hindi ko po mailagay yung header ko sa base theme. :( pano yun?

  • 84. simplyjacy  |  November 6th, 2008 at 1:45 pm

    why not?

    did you put it at the div.owner_nav?

  • 85. reiko  |  November 7th, 2008 at 8:17 am

  • 86. candy  |  November 9th, 2008 at 10:52 am

    hi! i would just like to ask how to move or lower the div#subnav part? it’s covering my banner and i don’t know how to move it… hope someone can help me. thans!

  • 87. reiko  |  November 9th, 2008 at 11:53 am

    would anyone know how to change the textarea? XD thanks.

  • 88. simplyjacy  |  November 9th, 2008 at 5:50 pm

    if you want to tweak the textarea, this is the code:
    textarea {
    color: #000;
    background: url(“urlofimage”);
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-position: right bottom;

  • 89. simplyjacy  |  November 9th, 2008 at 5:53 pm

    it would be best if you include the url to the page that you are working on so we can have an idea where to fix in specifics.

    however in general, look for this code in your CSS:

    add or look for the string: margin-top: 100px; inside code. change the value of the margine-top string to move your navigation bar. high value brings it down, low value brings it up.

  • 90. simplyjacy  |  November 9th, 2008 at 5:56 pm

    hello reiko!

    my Y! messenger is same as my name here.

    which is very obvious since my website is named after it too!

  • 91. tonette  |  November 10th, 2008 at 9:50 am

    opo. :( kaso ayaw talaga. ginawa ko din yung sinabi niyo na kung san mahahanap yung url pero ayaw talaga.

  • 92. simplyjacy  |  November 10th, 2008 at 11:30 pm

    can you give me the url of your page. that way i will what went wrong?

  • 93. tonette  |  November 11th, 2008 at 10:05 am

    sige po.

  • 94. simplyjacy  |  November 12th, 2008 at 1:20 am

    hi tonette!

    blue slate theme is not the easiest base theme to tweak. i usually advise learning designers to play with shadowbox or avlack instead.

    with regards to your image no appearing, it is because you need to insert it with the “background” attribute. so this should be inserted on the div.owner_nav string instead of just the url of your banner.

    background: url(“
    height: 200px;

  • 95. ika  |  November 12th, 2008 at 6:36 am

    hey… could you help me…. i have been trying so many times to make my own layout but i have been encountering too many difficulties…. one of my problems include: my background image not showing and such…. please and thank you…..

    hello ika!

    i’m viewing your page right now and i can see the background image. you probably fixed this one already.

  • 98. simplyjacy  |  November 12th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

    let me know if you encounter any problems.

  • 99. ika  |  November 13th, 2008 at 5:44 am

    hey… yeah… i already got it fixed.thank you… but i have a problem again….. I don’t know how to make a banner… :( i mean i have tried looking at your tutorials on how to make a banner but sadly, i still couldn’t make it coz i have trouble understanding the tools that i have to use in photoshop….. help again….. :)

  • 100. ika  |  November 13th, 2008 at 6:24 am

    hey there! i already got my banner fixed…. haha :) ) but. if you look at my profile, the color of the page is just white… i would like it to be the same as with my background…. help again…. thank you!!!!

  • 101. tonette  |  November 13th, 2008 at 10:10 am

    :( natry ko na po sa avlack pero wala pa ring nangyayari. napupunta tuloy yung header sa gilid pero hindi naman yun yung header na ginawa ko.

  • 102. xattie  |  November 14th, 2008 at 2:13 am

    pno kung wla akong cs2 or cs3?

  • 103. tonette  |  November 14th, 2008 at 10:05 am

    mejo kita na po yung header ko kaso po may nakaharang. pano ko po yun tatanggalin?

  • 104. simplyjacy  |  November 14th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

    you can use other imaging software like Gimp or others. you just have to use your creativity to come up with the image.

  • 105. simplyjacy  |  November 14th, 2008 at 2:57 pm

    there are a lot of photoshop tutorials that will teach you how to use those tools. i will try to look for them and post it under the Tutorials section. in the mean time search it out yourself.

  • 106. simplyjacy  |  November 14th, 2008 at 3:01 pm

    hi ika!

    you might want to change the height on the div.owner_nav of your css to 250px; since your banner’s height is 250 that way it won’t look cut off.

    as for the body color, you can change it at this part of the css:

    td#maincontent { padding: 0 25px 0 0;
    margin: 0;
    background-color: #fff; /*change the #fff to your color’s hex value*/

    if you want to use an image to be the background, just add this string of code with your image’s url inside the above code:

    background: url(“urlofyourimage”);

    good luck!

  • 107. simplyjacy  |  November 14th, 2008 at 3:12 pm

    hi tonette!

    look for this code in your CSS: h1#page_owner_title and delete the entire sting (up to this }) and replace it with the code below:

    h1#page_owner_title {
    padding: 20px;
    background-color: transparent;
    color: #fff;
    border: none;
    display: none;

    what i basically did was delete all the background image and color tag on it leaving only the background-color: transparent; code.

    next is look for this string: div#subnavc and erase the url in the background tag.
    and then add this string within the div#subnavc:

    magin-top: 180px;

    so your div#subnav string should look like this:

    div#subnavc {
    background: url() no-repeat bottom;
    background-color: #456;
    width: auto;
    margin-top: 180px;

  • 108. nikita  |  November 14th, 2008 at 10:55 pm

    Ano po size ng avlack header natatakpan po kasi yung mga nav link? pwede po bang paliitin ‘yung font ng site title?

  • 109. nikita  |  November 14th, 2008 at 11:42 pm

    tanong pa po pasensya na po wala po kasi alam sa pag-edit ng multiply. pano po papalitan ‘yung font color avlack po yung theme na gamit ko. gusto ko palitan yung green and gray na font color.

  • 110. nikita  |  November 14th, 2008 at 11:44 pm

    pano po rin pala i-aadjust yung size ng header para po hindi matakpan ‘yung mga nav links? salamat ng marami!

  • 111. tonette  |  November 15th, 2008 at 2:58 am

    tenkyu po. nagawa ko na. :)

  • 112. tonette  |  November 15th, 2008 at 10:22 am

    question po. pano po mejo ibaba yung navigation bar? saka balak ko po kasi gawing black yung kulay niya. thanks. :)

  • 113. simplyjacy  |  November 16th, 2008 at 3:48 am

    what’s the url to your site that you’re working with?

    typically, the dimensions of the avlack header is 760×200. it is best if you keep this width. but you can be free to make your image height bigger. all you have to do is change the height on your CSS.

    you can also change the font on your site title by looking at this string of code in your CSS:
    you can add this within the string:
    font-family: times new roman;

  • 114. simplyjacy  |  November 16th, 2008 at 3:50 am

    nikita, you might want to check this tutorial so you will know which part of the CSS controls the particular part of your page.

    Your Page and CSS

    that should give answers to your questions.

  • 115. simplyjacy  |  November 16th, 2008 at 3:57 am

    increase the value of the magin-top in your div#subnavc string.

    change the value of the background-color: #345; to #000

    then go to your div#subnac and delete all the background-color and it’s values leaving only 1. with the remaining background-color, change the value to #000.

    tonette, for future reference, check this tutorial to know which part of the CSS you need to work on with regards to your page:
    Your Page and CSS

    hi, could you pls help me fix my footer? i didn’t own the theme, i just copy and paste it from shar, but the theme doesn’t look right on my site so i made some adjustments. so far my only problem now is the footer. i cant make it aligned with the body. thanks:)

  • 125. clever  |  December 3rd, 2008 at 2:33 pm

    Hi, thanks for all the tutorials. They’ve really been of great help.

    I’m trying to adjust the font size of my theme, but somehow can’t get them to change to the size I want.

    I’m hoping you can help tell me the difference between PT and PX in the font-size? And also, what should I edit in my CSS to change the font of my page’s ABOUT ME? It’s so tiny and I can’t seem to edit it right.

    Please help. Thanks in advance!

  • 126. simplyjacy  |  December 4th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

    which enter button were you talking abotu? was it the guestbook?

  • 127. simplyjacy  |  December 4th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

    there is actually no specific size for the body part as it automatically adjusts to the height of the elements like images and texts you put into it.

  • 128. simplyjacy  |  December 4th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

    hi faith!

    look for the footer code and replace the entire thing with this code:

    div#ownedfooter {
    margin: 0;
    margin-left: -1px;
    width: 793px;
    height: 170px;
    padding: 0px 0px 0 0px;
    line-height: 170px;
    border: none;
    color: #FF4A79;
    text-align: center;
    font-size: 10px;
    background: url( no-repeat bottom;

    that code should align the footer with the rest of the body.

  • 129. simplyjacy  |  December 5th, 2008 at 12:14 am

    first of all, i would like to congratulate you with your design. it really looks good.

    with regards to the difference between PT nd PX, PT stands for point. for example 72 pt equals one inch = 2,54 cm. PX stands for pixels which is based on screen resolution. if you define your font-size in all online documents in pt rather than px then you have a steady / equal font-size on any monitor of any resolution and thus a steady reading comfort independent of monitor resolution used by readers/surfers.

    with regards to the small fonts of your page, that was due to the tweaking that you made. to have control of those tiny text, you can try to add font-size: 12px; value inside the .itembox string.

  • 130. faithlily  |  December 5th, 2008 at 10:16 am

    yey! the footer’s aligned now! a million thanks! :)

  • 131. simplyjacy  |  December 5th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

  • 132. clever  |  December 6th, 2008 at 2:01 am

  • 133. clever  |  December 6th, 2008 at 4:16 am

    Hi Jacy, thank you for your assistance, but I still encountered some misalignments. Can you kindly visit my page and see how I can change the links in my photo albums? I can’t even see the links like EDIT/DELETE, ADD MORE PHOTOS etc. I think I need to change its color, but I can’t find it in the css code.

    How do I also change the font size of the links on my railbody? I also hope you can check why my layout is suddenly misaligned.

    Thanks so very much in advance!

    hi sheh!
    did you not follow the step-by-step guide above? if you read it and follow each step, you should be able to figure it out.

  • 137. simplyjacy  |  December 6th, 2008 at 1:51 pm

    the website you have mentioned is using the Default base theme.

  • 138. simplyjacy  |  December 6th, 2008 at 2:27 pm

    If you check out Your Page and CSS Tutorial, you will find out that the part of your page that is not aligned is the .railbody. this way, you will know that you need to adjust it’s width and take away the padding. if you remove the entire padding string and decrease the width to 125px, that should align your entire page. (the value btw is obtained through trial and error)

    as for the EDIT/DELETE stuff, you can control it by looking for this code on your CSS

    a.mine, a.mine:link, a:visited.mine {
    /* color: #FFF; border: none; background-color: #FFF; margin: 0 2px 0 2px; */
    color: #000; border: none; background: none;

    change the value of the color: #000; to your desired color-hex value.

    as for the opposite side that says: SHARE/PRINTS, REPLY, look for this code on your CSS:

    div.ritemactions a, div.ritemactions a:link, div.ritemactions a:visited {
    /* color: #FFF; border: none; background-color: #FFF; margin: 0 2px 0 2px; */
    color: #000; border: none; background: none;

    change the value of the color: #000; to your desired color-hex value.

    and lastly to change the font size of the link on your railbody, look for this code on your CSS:

    /* links in the rail */
    .railbody a, .railbody a:link, .railbody a:visited {

    before the end of the “}“, add this string of code to control the size of the font: font-size: 10px; or whatever value you prefer.

    your comment gives me a realization that there are indeed lots of tutorials that I need to put up. eventually, i should be able to to. thank you for your loyalty on and More Power!

  • 165. admin  |  January 7th, 2009 at 5:11 pm

    I noticed that you have an Avlack base theme but using the MyKonos base theme codes. this has somehow created a slight problem. although it can be done, we need to take a closer look on each codes and compromise each other.

    my suggestion is to make your base theme as Mykonos and paste your CSS. i tried it and it looks better and it will be easier for you to control the other page elements.

  • 166. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 5:20 pm

    if the size of the image banner or footer is smaller than what is on the CSS, the image would repeat itself. my advise is to change the values of the height and width of those elements to match the size of your image.

    if you don’t want repetition you can also use this code: background-repeat: no-repeat;

    you can find the codes of the base themes here:

    your banner image might be smaller than what’s on your CSS. try to make them the same.

  • 169. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 5:45 pm

    the tutorial should guide you on what you want to do. the tutorial also links you to other tutorial that will give you an idea what part of the CSS you should control to obtain what you want for your site.

  • 170. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 5:54 pm

    are you referring to the theme that you have on your page now?

  • 171. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 6:05 pm

    what would you like to do? would you like to hide the Title so it will only show the text in your image? or would you like to move the title instead?
    to control that part of your page, look for this code: h1#page_owner_title
    to hide it, add this string inside it display: none;
    if you want to move it around add this code:
    position: absolute;
    right: 150px;
    <– play with the values until you reach your preference position

  • 172. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 6:16 pm

    if you noticed in your code, there are two div#owner_nav in it. so delete the first one so you can control that particular element of your page.
    to show your entire pictuer, remove one of the height and it’s values and replace the value of the other one to the height of your banner image. if you think it’s too much, adjust the value again. i used 300px and it looks fine.
    since your banner image is smaller than the alotted of 760px, you might want to center the image or adjust the height of the image to 760px;
    to center it, delete the value of the background-position to center.

    to move the menu bar lower, look for this code: div#subnavc and add this string: margin-top: 185px;

    check your CSS for code repetition. i have also noticed there are two subnav and subnavc in it.

  • 174. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 6:21 pm

    you have to paste the entire CSS of your theme which includes the body, banner, footer and other elements at the Custom CSS. that way you will see what you’ve been working on.

  • 175. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

    you can insert it at the end of your CSS

  • 176. simplyjacy  |  January 7th, 2009 at 6:28 pm

    can you give me a link to the site that you’re working at. i want to see it so i can tell which part you missed.

  • 178. simplyjacy  |  January 9th, 2009 at 12:54 am

    i meant the url of your multiply site.
    anyway, look for this code on your CSS:
    under that tag there should be this string: background: url("http://");
    replace the string with this: background: url("");
